Sea Fishing in Holland - How should you behave ?
Take Notice ! Safety and Rulings.

Finally the Officials have given us a reason to write about the form of fishing, that suffered from a total black out on our website. Sea-Fishing in Holland. What was our problem untill today ? There were hardly any rules, which had resulted into a resentfull situation.

We are pleased to see that the officials have issued a full list of advises for how an Angler should act while fishing our Dutch Seas.

Here the following advises for a better and lasting Sea Fishingtrip in the future :

1) Know the Rules
Sea fishing in Holland knows little rules. When you know how many rods and hooks you may use, what are the minimum sizes you may take for example, you will fish more relaxing then when you don't.
When all should follow the rules, we finally should have a better world we think.
you can visit http://www.sportvisserijnederland.nl/vispas/visserijwet_en_regels and study them.
Aske other anglers to inform you, so you may inform others again.

2) Don't make a fuzz and accept there are others we depend on.
As anglers, we are using common spaces for our environmental pleasures. As shore sea fishermen, you will probably use the beaches, piers, dykes and harbors.
The acces to our beaches are mostly free, but at harbors, piers and dykes, you may find out that there are limited or private properties. Accept that please. You are putting fellow fishermen into a bad corner, when you cannot accept limitations. We do not have extra rights than others. Accept that you, are not the one that may limit anybody else, because at the end, we will all be limited as anglers. When you are experiencing local problems, you may allways contact the local authorities for local advise.

3) Accept and Respect other recreants and take notice for endangering others
You may not be alone in Holland when you go Sea fishing. There may be others in our dense populated country. Accept that we all need to share and that we all share our common spaces we have.
Accept that somebody was there first at the swim and aske if there is no problem when you join the spot. Watch out when casting ! Heavy Weights may give Heavy Damage to others !
You may allways contact the local authorities when problems occur.
The Sea Gives(still) and Takes. Take Care of your own Safety !

4) Fishes for Food supply
When you do it right, the fish you want to eat is still alive when you shore it. Take Care ! This is a Live Animal ! Kill him when still hooked, if you want to take him with you. Smash the back of the head with a heavy stomp. Release him instantly when you choose(or need - Check Minimum Sizes) to set him free. There are no personal quota installed. A real whole in our current laws at the time of writing. Do not take more than you personally use. Selling Fish is a crime ! Take care and take a nett with you when you choose to release. Never use a gaff. Keep your fishes at a cool place, out of the sun. Salmon and Sea-Trout are fully Protected, The Eel population is fading ! Catch and Release them instantly.

5) Finding livebaits
Digging for worms is still possible in Holland. There may be limitations on the local area, or you may need an extra license to do so. When you choose to dig your own worms, take just what you need. We need to keep a healthy population for the future. Clean up the digging mess and we may keep on digging.

6) Safety Precautions
Allways Remind your own Safety !
Allways Check the Weather Reports !
Allways Check the Tide ! at http://www.getij.nl/
Never Go Out Alone by Boat !
Let other People know when and where you are going.
Try to go by combined charter

7) We have 1 Environment - Invest to Preserve
Never Leave any Rubbish. Rubbish Polutes and actually Kills.
When you really care, Please Clean-up others peoples dangerous rubbish.

8)Throwing Heavy Metals.
When Lead would be Gold, there would be no Environmental problems. Lead is highly toxic ! Please use alternatives available at any repectfull fishing shop.

This is our free translation on the Dutch Sea Fishing behaviour rulings. We still reject the fact, that there are no limitations for the weight that may be taken. It's just one crazy EU-thing.
For the rest, we are thankfull that the officials are accepting that something needed to be done and the Sea-fishing behaviour list is a begin for something better.
It´s no law right now, but hopefully in the nearest future.

Rods to use
Mostly 3 rods may be used, but this may be limited by area.
